A New Spirit
'Again
Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending
you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.'
John 20:21-22
Ephesians 1:13 "And
you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the
gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with
a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, . . ."
We understand that the Spirit
is given to those who have trusted in Christ, but what role does the Spirit
play? For what purpose do we have the Spirit?
2 Thessalonions 2:13 "But
we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because
from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work
of the Spirit and through belief in the truth."
Titus 3:4-7
In the study on Christ we
looked at how our salvation works by being part of Christ (in whom we have
already died, and have the promise of new life). How might the Holy Spirit
be involved in this process?
Look again at the passage
in Titus, and also at Romans 12:2. How should having the Spirit of God
within us (a part of us) affect our lives?
Have a look at Galatians 5:16-25
for the result of being renewed by and living in the Spirit. Why do you
think that this is not automaticly how we live as believers?
John 14:26 But
the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will
teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
1 Cor
2:9-16
We looked
at this in one of our earlier studies - one of the important roles the
Spirit plays in our lives.

What role does the Spirit of God play here?
What do you think then is
the main purpose of Spirit of God, and what should the results of that
be? What should our response to that be?
I
will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from
you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my
Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep
my laws.
